Why have an Asbestos Survey ?

We all understand the risk that asbestos represents in challenging economic times and the need to effectively manage asbestos and its associated risks.

An asbestos survey will identify:

  • The location of any asbestos-containing materials (ACM’s) in the building
  • the type of asbestos they containDSCF5617
  • the condition these materials are in

An asbestos survey is an effective way to help you manage asbestos in your premises. It is highly recommended that you arrange a survey if you suspect there are ACMs in your premises.

The asbestos survey can help to provide enough information so that an asbestos register, a risk assessment and a management plan can then be prepared.

Management Survey

Management surveys are standard surveys. Their purpose is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation works, and to assess their condition.

Refurbishment and Demolition Survey

Refurbishment and Demolition surveys are needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place, or in the whole building if demolition is planned. These surveys are fully intrusive and gain access to all areas, including those which may be difficult to reach

Following a survey, we will produce a survey report which details the findings.

We were one of the first inspection bodies in the UK to be awarded the UKAS accreditation for asbestos surveys.

At the end of an asbestos survey the client receives a comprehensive report, which includes an asbestos register highlighting all ACMs and presumptions. The register lists all our recommendations for the asbestos materials found, making it easy for the person(s) responsible for the health and safety of others on a premises to comply with the legal requirements. The register also lists materials that were sampled and found not to contain asbestos, so if any contractors need to work on the premises they will know they can do so with peace of mind.
